Stabilizing Exempt Organizations through Fiscal Sponsorship - Tools for a COVID World

Reimagining the Sector - The COVID-19 pandemic has destabilized the nonprofit sector. With the expiration of the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) in July, we are only just beginning to feel the economic impacts of the pandemic. Of the nearly one million nonprofits nationwide, 88% operate below $500,000 and 50% had no more than 30 days of cash on hand--and that was before the pandemic. Candid estimates that at least  11% of all nonprofits will go out of business. Fiscal sponsors can help our sector restructure for greater resilience and sustainability.

We will present an overview of fiscal sponsorship Models A, F, L, and a new potential Model “O” and how they can present stabilizing solutions for established organizations and a preview of a primer we're preparing as a takeaway: “Working with Exempt Organizations: A Field Guide for Fiscal Sponsors”.

We will be joined by Marla Conley of Conley Law Group LLC, a nationally leading law practice for exempt organizations. Founding Member, CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia and its Chief Commons Director Gabrielle Wanamaker have been working with Marla on solutions to address the needs of existing arts and culture organizations. Gabrielle will kick off our conversation and Marla will be on hand to offer legal perspective and address questions.
