Managing Fixed Assets Deep Dive 2 - Intellectual Property

Intellectual property (IP) is a vast and complex class of assets, in particular when it comes to balancing both private and public trust (nonprofit) ownership issues. Many of our projects--whether they realize it or not--are developing IP every day. We tend to manage IP rather informally in the sector in general, but questions abound today relating to how we manage IP created with charitable funds, while also intentionally supporting the development of private assets development, in particular for traditionally marginalized individuals communities. This conversation will take a deep look at IP management in the nonprofit context and how fiscal sponsors can share ownership more intentionally with private creators and owners.
